The aim of the weekend is to develop a deeper and more profound relationship with Wild Law via direct personal experience of the natural world in a wilderness setting,
A unique opportunity to immerse yourself in Wild Law in its essence. We'll be turning off mobiles and taking off watches to go on retreat for three days in some of Britain's wildest, most remote and spectacular scenery. Our purpose: to explore the deeper, more intimate side of Wild Law and our relationship with it. We have exclusive use of Loch Ossian Youth Hostel, a unique, rustic style eco-hostel set high on Rannoch Moor. This Green Tourism Gold Award winning venue operates some of the most up to date environmental science including wind and solar power, grey water and dry toilet systems. 103 species of birds were observed there last year, red deer and other mammals are a real possibility.
Speakers
Sir Crispin Agnew of Lochnaw BT, of UKELA's Scottish Regional Group, and Jamie Whittle of UKELA's Council will be designing the programme around the wishes of the group.
Facilities
- Nestling on the banks of Loch Ossian in the heart of the Highlands, the Youth Hostel offers some of the best wildlife in Europe and can be reached only on foot. In keeping with its ecological character there are ample washing facilities but no showers. There are only 18 beds in two dormitories so early booking is recommended. The hostel is self-catering. Because of its remoteness, participants must provide and carry in all food and other requirements for the entire trip, and porter out rubbish. The possibility of sharing some communal meals could be accommodated if the group wishes to take this on in advance.
Organised by
- Alison Boyd, tel: 01306 500090. You can also contact by email.
How to get there:
The nearest public transport is Corrour station - featured in the movie Trainspotting and said to be Britain's remotest - on the Glasgow to Fort William line. The overnight sleeper from London is conveniently timed. Then a one mile walk. Thanks to SYHA for the photo (their copyright).
