University of Kent, Canterbury, 20-22 June 2008
Nearly 250 delegates attended the UKELA Annual Conference 2008held at the University of Kent over the weekend 20-22 June, to discuss the shifting responsibilities in environmental regulation.

Outgoing UKELA chair, Daniel Lawrence, opens the session exploring recent changes in the approach to environmental regulation and enforcement, with speakers Richard Macrory, Peter Kellett and David Wolfe.

Tom Mosedale of Defra spoke on the Marine Bill and Andrew Dobb of the RSPB asked whether current UK nature conservation law provides the right balance of rights and responsibilities?

Field visit to Howletts international conservation centre and view of the largest breeding group of gorillas in captivity in the world. Other visits were to UK nature conservation centre, Wildwood, and a walking tour of Canterbury.



Delegates enjoyed local sparkling wine in the precincts of Canterbury Cathedral before a gala dinner of local produce in a marquee in the grounds.
