UKELA CPD Rules

CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

UKELA is recognised by the Law Society and the Bar Council as an external authorised provider of courses for the purposes of CPD Points. In order to take advantage of this authorisation, all those intending to run UKELA courses, conferences and workshops

  1. Notify Prof Paul Leonard (see Council page) that the event is being held at least three weeks prior to the event to enable him to have sufficient time to notify the Bar Council. Accreditation is available from the Bar Council only for pre-notified events.
  2. Ensure that all literature for the event is advertised as being accredited for CPD points (preferably stating the amount of points available). This can be calculated on the basis of actual teaching time (excluding coffee breaks, etc) in hours and minutes.
  3. Ensure that the speakers and event leaders prepare documentation, a requisite for Law Society CPD, and forward a copy to Paul Leonard after the event.
  4. Ensure that attendance lists for the Law Society and the Bar Council are available and signed by all delegates who wish to receive CPD points. Model forms are attached to this information sheet.
  5. Remind solicitors that if they wish to claim CPD points they must update their own personal records detailing the date of the event, the provider of the event, the title of the event, the Law Society reference number (which in UKELA's case is 3544) and finally the amount of points (time) available to be registered.
  6. Send the signed delegate lists to Paul Leonard to enable him to send the barristers' list to the Bar Council and to retain the solicitors list in case of an audit by the Law Society.

Failure to comply with the above means that the course will not be accredited.

If you have any queries about CPD, please contact Prof Paul Leonard (see Council page).
