Junior UKELA Fireside Chat

Come and share in our cosy chat

Join us at Cornerstone Barristers in Gray's Inn, London, for a new format of Junior UKELA event as we begin the first of our "Fireside Chats" series. This entails an informal interview between a junior practitioner and a more experienced practitioner where they answer questions and share insights about their professional experiences from their different perspectives.

For our inaugural chat, we are delighted to have Mr Justice Dove, a High Court Judge of the King's Bench Division and Verity Bell, a junior barrister who recently completed pupillage at Cornerstone Barristers, to take part.

Mr Justice Dove was called to the Bar at Inner Temple in 1986 and was a member of the Planning and Environment Bar association, the Administrative Bar association and the Compulsory Purchase association. Prior to taking silk, he served on the Panel of Junior Counsel to the Crown (Treasury Council) in the Provinces. He sat as an Immigration Judge, Recorder in the Crown and County Courts, Deputy High Court Judge and occasional inspector for Town and Village Green inquiries until he was appointed as a High Court Judge of the Queen’s Bench Division (now the King’s Bench Division) on 1 October 2014. Mr Justice Dove is a Bencher at the Inner Temple and from 2013-2014 was an Honorary Professor of Law at Birmingham University. In September 2016 he was made an Honorary Fellow of St Catherine’s College, Oxford.

Verity Bell is a junior tenant at Cornerstone Barristers. She is developing a mixed public law practice across planning, environmental, housing and local government law. Verity was called to the Bar in October 2020 and completed her 12-month pupillage at Cornerstone Barristers between April 2021 – April 2022. Prior to coming to the Bar, she worked as a High Court judicial assistant, a research assistant at the Law Commission and as a teaching fellow at University College London.

Is there something you've always wanted to ask about working in environmental law to our two participants? If so, please do send your questions by Friday 2 December to [email protected] or via our social media channels on LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook.

The chat will be followed by drinks at the Bridge Bar, Gray's Inn.

To book your place, please log in or register and follow the prompts. Please don't register again if you have already set up an account with us.
