Annual Conference: "Past Reflections & Future Horizons - environmental law in post-Brexit Britain.”

Friday 22 June 2018 - Sunday 24 June 2018
11 am Friday - 9am Sunday
Organised by Conference Team

Please join us in Canterbury at Kent University’s beautiful campus from 22 to 24 June 2018. Our Conference theme this year is “Past Reflections and Future Horizons: Environmental law in a post-Brexit World”.

Conference this year, gives us time and space to recharge as we approach Brexit – and UKELA’s 30th anniversary.

Our programme starts earlier this year, to give you even more CPD value.

Plenary 1 will focus on waste. Starting with waste prosecutions and enforcement undertakings, we move on to get both the regulatory and in-house perspectives, closing with updates on the circular economy from industry and NGO viewpoints.

Plenary 2 will raise the temperature and pace with our expert panel presenting personal perspectives on what’s coming – we expect to cover arrangements for an independent “Commission”, air quality and health, and sectoral challenges and opportunities in e.g. infrastructure, natural environment, energy, water and housing.

Plenary 3 gives us an international update. Opening with ”What Trump did next”, followed by insights on South America’s approaches - including theirEU-based product regulation -we close with a reminder of the physical impacts of environmental change, using the Solomon Islands as a case study.

Plenary 4 starts Saturday with a look at natural environment challenges and opportunities post-Brexit. A range of speakers will lead us through the emerging 25 year environment plan and what this might mean for habitat protection, fisheries and key CAP issues.

Our final plenary will consider the rise of ESG (environmental, social and governance) on the corporate agenda. The panel debate will include perspectives from NGOs and major businesses, and will look at the recent case law from challenges to corporate responsibility and corporate separateness.

Our formal programme ends with our popular Working Party sessions, each focusing on a different aspect of our post-Brexit environmental world.

Excursions on Saturday afternoon make time for networking and relaxing. We end with our Gala Dinner, offering wonderful food and an engaging speaker.
