Wales Working Party: Planning Law in Wales Seminar

Thursday 25 January 2018 Eversheds Sutherland Solicitors, 1 Callaghan Square, Cardiff CF10 5BT
5.30-7.00pm (5pm register)
Organised by UKELA Wales Working Party

Officials from the Planning Directorate of the Welsh Government will provide an update on their key projects to be delivered during the fifth term of the National Assembly for Wales.

Planning legislation in Wales is desperately in need of sorting out. The Welsh Government is embarking on a complete consolidation of around 30 Acts of Parliament and the Assembly, replacing them with just two. In addition, the Law Commission has issued a major Consultation Paper outlining a range of technical reforms to be incorporated – eliminating provisions that are unclear or misleading, bringing the law into line with current best practice, doing away with unnecessary or overlapping procedures, and removing altogether a number of obsolete or unused provisions. The result will be a legislative code that is fit for the 21st century.

Hear Charles Mynors from the Commission outline some of the more significant reforms, and have a chance to feed in your views.

Chaired by Dr Victoria Jenkins, Wales WP convenor and lecturer in law at Swansea University
