Young UKELA The Basics: Fish and the Law

Monday 20 May 2019 Francis Taylor Building
6pm (5.30pm registration) - 7.30pm followed by drinks
Organised by Young UKELA team

Young UKELA is delighted to announce the latest in our series of 'The Basics' Seminars

The seminars aim to explain the fundamentals of environmental law to those in the early(ish) years of practice, in an inclusive format that encourages the presentations to give way to friendly Q&A, debate and networking.

The seminar will focus on an are of law that is both topical and important: the law of fisheries. Our expert contributors will discuss the existing law regulating sea fishing in UK waters, enforcement, the Common Fisheries Policy and issues arising from Brexit.

Our Speakers:

  • Daniel Owen, barrister, Fenners Chambers
  • Sarah Denman, UK Environment lawyer and lead on fisheries, ClientEarth
  • Dr Richard Cadell, Lecturer in Law, University of Cardiff
  • Speaker from Marine Management Organisation invited
Like other Young UKELA seminars, the event is informal in nature, intended to encourage participation and learning.

The seminar will be chaired by Ned Westaway, UKELA Vice Chair (and barrister at Francis Taylor Building).
