Fundraising - Ways to get involved
UKELA is a Registered Charity (299498). Most of our funding comes from membership subscriptions and events income. We are also hugely fortunate to have corporate sponsorship, in particular for our annual conference and other events, including in kind such as facilities donated free of charge. We are also fortunate to have a band of committed volunteers, without whom we would not be able to function.
But there is always more to be done and that's where you might be able to help. Take a look at ways you can become involved below. Thank you.
The main opportunity for sponsorship is at our Annual Conferences. Our 2017 conference will be held in Nottingham over the weekend of 7-9 July. We will announce the theme and open bookings later in the year, together with setting out sponsorship opportunities. If you are interested in sponsoring any aspect of the 2017 Conference, please get in touch.
We hold a number of fundraising events each year - with something for everyone! Try our annual Fundraising Lunch with a handpicked after lunch speaker or join our Recyclists for the annual cycle ride to Conference.
Hosted by a top law firm in the City, our annual Fundraising Lunch is a highlight. For 2015 we were delighted to welcome Peter Owen Jones, celebrated presenter and environmental champion to Latham and Watkins' premises for an exclusive lunch and lecture. 30 diners enjoyed a delicious meal whilst hearing about Peter's own experiences and thoughts on current pressing environmental issues, including climate change.
In 2014, we hosted a lunchtime debate, kindly hosted by Simmons and Simmons. John Redwood MP and David Hart QC debated the motion “Excessive and unnecessary environmental legislation and regulation is seriously damaging the UK’s economic growth”.
As for 2016 - watch this space!
For the past 5 years, an intrepid band of cyclists made up of lawyers, barristers, consultants and students have, under the banner name of the Recyclists, cycled their way to the annual conference to raise funds for our organisation. They will be hopping aboard their trusty steeds once again in 2017 to cycle to Nottingham, warm in the glow of completing a successful run to Brighton over the Downs this year. They raised over £1500 which will go towards the updating of Law and Your Environment. Newcomers are warmly welcomed - Get in touch
