Young UKELA/Young ELF the Basics: International Environmental Law

Join us for this highly topical event in association with the Environmental Law Foundation

Join us on 21 October at 6pm for a joint event from UKELA and ELF on international environmental law, where we explore the body of substantive international law and procedural rules that aim to protect the environment. We will look at the historical development of key international environmental conventions, considering important bodies and agencies that support this body of law, as well as principles and how these laws are implemented and enforced. As we have two critical conferences of parties (COPs) happening this year on climate change (COP26 of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) and biodiversity (COP15 of the Convention on Biological Diversity), we will also spend some time focussing on these conventions, highlighting why they are so crucial.

Young UKELA The Basics and Young ELF events are aimed at those in the early stages of their career, but all are welcome. After the webinar has concluded, there will be an opportunity for informal networking.

Speakers:

  • Caroline Bush, Senior Associate at Osborne Clarke
  • Marc Willers QC, Barrister at Garden Court Chambers
  • Jo Smallwood, lecturer at the University of Sussex

Chaired by Heather Hamilton, co-Convenor, Young UKELA
