Join us for an engaging seminar bringing together leading minds in law, environmental conservation and renewable energy to explore renewable energy development. As we navigate the transition from fossil fuels to sustainable energy sources this seminar will provide attendees with a comprehensive overview of the opportunities that renewable energy presents as well as the challenges that lie ahead.

The seminar will focus on regulatory frameworks, policy incentives and financial structures that support the development of renewables.  Additionally there will be a focus on the legal challenges in the sector including land use conflicts.  The importance of balancing energy needs with ecological preservation will also be a key focus.Topics for discussion include:

• The current state and future prospects of renewable energy technologies (wind, solar hydro and bioenergy)
• Legal frameworks and challenges in the renewable energy sector
• Environmental impact assessments and conservation strategies for renewable projects
• Public policy; and
• Community engagement in renewable energy development

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with our speakers through a Q&A session at the end of the seminar.

Meet our speakers:

• Mustafa Latif Aramesh, Partner and Parliamentary Agent BDB Pittmans specialises in infrastructure planning, public law, legislative drafting, and advising on parliamentary procedure.  He has extensive major infrastructure, planning experience having worked on over 20 Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects under the Planning Act 2008.  These projects include energy, highways, business, commercial and airport schemes.  He is currently part of the core team on the Lower Thames Crossing and Luton Airport expansion proposals.  Mustafa is also advising on advanced nuclear and small modular reactor projects, including three small modular reactor projects in the UK.  Mustafa has also advised on a number of Transport and Works Act 1992 schemes including the Bakerloo Line Extension. 
  
  
• Odette Chalaby, barrister at No5 Chambers specialist planning, environmental and public law barrister. In her first year of practice she was recognised in Planning Magazine’s Guide to Planning Lawyers as one of the 20 top-rated planning juniors under 35, the most recently qualified entrant on the list. Odette represents developers, public authorities and interested parties at all stages of the planning process.  She is particularly interested in matters at the intersection of planning and environmental law, including renewable energy, biodiversity net gain, habitats and EIA. She has been instructed in cases before the Privy Council, the High Court, Crown Court, Magistrates Court and at numerous S78 TCPA appeals.  She regularly appears as junior counsel on significant multi-week planning inquiries, including solar farms, mineral development and large housing schemes.

• Professor Mark Barrett, has a PhD in Energy Modelling and is Professor of Energy and Environmental System Modelling at UCL. He has worked as a civil servant, consultant, company director and academic. Mark has worked for Non Governmental Organisations, the European Commission, the European Environment Agency, UK Government, local authorities, and private companies. He models policies for managing energy use and greenhouse gas, acid and air pollution emissions across the major sectors of demand at scales from city to national and international. His recent research has focused on net zero emission energy system design, including the detailing of renewables, heat and cool supply, aviation fuelling, and negative emissions. The modelling for this includes the dynamic hourly simulation of demands and renewables, and optimisation of capacities including storage. Find out more HERE.
