On Tour Up North with the Waste Working Party

Following the recent DEFRA consultation on reviews on reforms to the WEEE Regulations, we are pleased to invite you to attend our dual UKELA Waste Working Party event in Manchester on 11 April.  Suez is hosting an afternoon tour (and lunch!) at its famous Renew Hub in Trafford Park to view the fantastic work they do with repairing and reusing items which otherwise would have gone to landfill (Nash Rd, Trafford Park, Stretford, Manchester M17 1SX). 

We are then off into Manchester City Centre for part 2 of the day, where Shoosmiths (The XYZ Building, 2 Hardman Boulevard, Spinningfields, Manchester, M3 3AZ) who will be hosting a session on WEEE, reuse and the Circular Economy with three excellent speakers – Dr David Greenfield of SOENECS, Sarah Downes of REPIC and Stuart Hayward-Higham of Suez. We hope you can join us for our North West tour!

 

Programme

1 pm  - 2 pm:              Arrival and lunch at Suez Renew Hub in Trafford

2 pm to 4 pm:             Renew Hub tour

4 pm to 5 pm:             Travel to Manchester (please make your own travel arrangements) 

5.30 pm to 6 pm:        6 pm arrival and networking at Shoosmiths Manchester office's

6 pm to  to 7.30 pm:  'WEEE, re-use and the Circular Economy’

7.30 pm  onwards:      Drinks and networking.

Meet our evening speakers

  • Stuart Hayward-Higham, Chief Technical Development and Innovation Officer | SUEZ recycling and recovery UK
    Stuart is currently responsible for non-bidding emerging development activities in SUEZ recycling and recovery UK, delivering tools, techniques and information to meet customers’ business imperatives. This includes delivering new solutions or making successful niche activities mainstream through to market intelligence, market modelling and forecasting. Main activity themes for Stuart include harnessing waste as a resource, energy and bio-fuels manufacture, sorting, extraction and value enhancement for waste mix resources.

  • Sarah Downes, REPIC
    Sarah has been with REPIC for 12 years where she has worked on projects to track the flows of electrical and electronic products going on to the market and what happens to the products at their end of life. Her interests lie in how this impacts on material recycling and the relationship with the circular economy and carbon impact. REPIC is a partner on a number of European projects researching these areas – FutuRaM looking at the future availability of secondary raw materials, CE-RISE developing a framework and resource information system to identify optimal solutions for the effective reuse, recovery, and/or recycling of materials, and CERES developing educational and training resources to support circular economy skills development. Sarah has 30 years experience in a number of roles covering resource efficiency, waste management and pollution control.
